BGMEA, BKMEA meet minister prior to announcement A News and Images report Dhaka, July 29: Government has announced Tk 3,000, up from the present Tk 1,662, as minimum monthly wages for garment workers. Labour and Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain made the formal announcement of the new wage structure at his secretariat office. Before the announcement, the minister held a long meeting with the leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) on the issue, according to sources. On Tuesday, the wage board formed in January submitted its recommendations to the minister citing Tk 3,000 per month as pay for a worker on entry into the job. rm/1930hrs |
