Syedi on fresh remand

A News and Images report

Dhaka, July 29: A Dhaka court on Thursday approved a day’s fresh remand for Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Syedi in connection with a case filed for an attempt on Dhaka University late Professor Dr. Humayun Azad on February 27, 2004.

Metropolitan Magistrate SK Tofail Hassan passed the order. Syedi was placed on a five-day remand in two phases earlier.

Syedi was shown arrested in the case on July 11 following an application submitted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

It is to be noted that on February 27, 2004, assailants hacked prominent writer Humayun Azad brutally with machetes in front of Bangla Academy while he was returning to his varsity residence at Fuller Road.
