Lack of stringent monitoring seen as the cause A News and Images report Dhaka, July 30: Prices of sugar, fish and vegetables were up while that of rice declined in the city's kitchen markets, traders said Friday. The traders said a group of dishonest businessmen capitalizing on the lack of government strong monitoring was responsible for the high prices of essentials even weeks before the month of Ramadan. Price of sugar was up by Tk 4 per kg and selling at Tk 48 at the retailers’ level last week. Meanwhile, prices of different varieties of rice came down, market sources said.
